There are 5.9 billion cellular subscribers, which is 87 percent of the world’s population. Facebook, the central fixture of social media (for now anyway), was launched in Feb 04 and now links more than 900 million users worldwide. Twitter, the micro blogging sensation, was launched in May-06 and it boasts more than 140 million users who post 340 million tweets a day (A DAY)! Even more amazing is the fact that more than 1.6 billion searches are performed on Twitter each month. It’s now the leading edge to news and communication. And that update is without even pulling the statistics on YouTube, Instagram, Vine, and Snapchat.
So, it’s safe to say that communication is as powerful as ever with more outlets and ways to reach the world than ever before! If we don’t leverage these aspects to drive the Gospel to the world- we are missing an opportunity.
But more than these outlets, you have your speech & your behavior. How you talk and walk and live in a manner of love towards others. Though social media is powerful, it can’t replace being kind, loving, or even embracing another.
5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:5-6
Just as salt not only flavors but prevents corruption, the Christian’s life should act not only as a blessing to others but as a purifying influence within the decaying society of the world. Are you salt or not?
Think about it… and have a great day.
