The good news about the Olympic games is that many sedentary Americans have made a commitment to get back to the gym.

The Bible encourages us to stay physically fit.  The Apostle Paul wrote, “…train yourself to be godly.  For physical training(Bodily Training) is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”(1 Tim. 4:7-8)

Did you get that? Bodily training is beneficial but only in this life. However, training in godliness is good for you in this life and the life to come. The Greek word Paul used in the Bible for the word “train” is the same word from which our English word “Gymnasium” originates.

All of the Greek cities in Biblical times had local Gymnasiums, which were always the best places to train your body physically. However, in order to train yourself spiritually Paul says we should hit the “Spiritual Gym,” and that is the church.

So do not be a couch potato this week, hit the gym for a little bodily exercise. And, do not be a couch potato on Sunday either…I will see you in church this week.
Have a Blessed Day!
