Hark The Herald Angels Sing – December 21, 2016
John 16:33- I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
2 Corinthians 5:18- All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
Jesus contrasts the life He brings with the life of this world: tribulation versus peace. The beautiful part of Christ’s coming is that He has overcome the world!
Read these lyrics from the first verse of “Hark the Herald angels sing”
Hark the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled”
Joyful, all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem”
While all those words have meaning this time of year, the most important phrase for all of humanity is found in those four words, “God and sinners reconciled!” After all, that’s the reason God gave us His One and only Son. Read these words of the Apostle Paul found in 2 Corinthians 5:18, “…God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”
So, as you look around this Christmas, remember all of this is from God, who reconciled sinners to Himself! Remember God also gave us the ministry of reconciliation, so whatever you do this Christmas, don’t be bashful about reminding everyone you meet that Jesus is in fact the reason for the season!
The Cottonwood Creek family and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
