Thinking Of Yourself Less – September 30, 2016
Philippians 2:5, In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; 7rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
At Cottonwood Creek, I’m in a teaching series titled ‘Relationship Goals’ God’s Way. This week’s focus is on letting humility be the hallmark of your attitude.
Today’s thought: true humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less. If you only think about your needs and your wants and your desires in a relationship, that relationship will be shallow and probably eventually doomed to destruction. However, true humility in a relationship involves two people who care more about the other person than they do about themselves.
The best example of this was Jesus. Read Philippians 2:6, “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; 7rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant…” And if Jesus, the son of God, can become a servant to mankind, surely we can be servants to our spouses, families and friends. Join me Sunday at Cottonwood Creek and I’ll talk about ‘True Forgiveness’ as the next key to ‘Relationship Goals’ God’s Way.
