What Is Love? – September 9, 2016

1 John 2:10, Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.

1 John 3:16, This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

Here’s a lesson worth teaching your children. We’ve all heard the saying that “love is blind.” Scripture actually tells us that the more we love, the better we see. 1 John 2:10 says, “Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.

Love is a source of light for us in this world. But how do we know what love is and what it looks like? 1 John 3:16 says, “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” It’s unlikely most of us will ever be presented with the opportunity to actually die for another person. But every day all of us will be given the opportunity to sacrifice our time, talent and possessions to help and serve other people. Teach your children about the selfless love that Jesus showed us. That’s how they’ll know what love is.

Have a great day!
