Don’t Hide From Others – August 31, 2016

2 Timothy 1:7, For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Deuteronomy 31:8, The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Over the past few weeks at Cottonwood Creek, I have been teaching a series titled, ‘Navigating Life’s Journey God’s Way!’ Last Sunday, I preached on Elijah the prophet in the Old Testament. One of the reasons why I love the story of Elijah is because the Bible says Elijah was a man just like us. That means he experienced all the success and failures that we encounter.

In 1 Kings 18, you see incredible success on Mount Carmel. In 1 Kings 19,  failure follows when Elijah runs for his life from Jezebel. Again in 1 Kings 19, you see that Elijah ran so far that his exhaustion caused him to literally hide out in a cave. When he was hiding out in that cave, God arrived and asked, “Elijah, what are you doing here?” In other words, “Why are you hiding out? “Why are you isolating yourself from people?” God might be asking you the same thing, “Why are you hiding out from others and isolating yourself?” God is encouraging you to get out and be strong. Read 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.”

If you think about games that require you to hide, the hiding is supposed to be quick and temporary. You hide until you have the chance to run free. So, don’t get stuck in your hiding spot today. Run free because your power is from the Lord (who by the way… created all hiding spots)

Think about that and have a blessed day!
